YOUR ROLE

You will lead and manage professional services in environmental health, building, biosecurity, and community safety, and assist in the operation and management of the Community, Environment and Planning Directorate.

 

In this position you will be responsible for managing:

  • Building services, including: health and building referrals, Development assessments (class 1 and 10 buildings), and principal certifying authority assessments  
  • Environmental health services including: drinking and swimming water quality assessment, environmental pollution investigation, and maintaining hygiene standards in commercial establishments.
  • Compliance with community safety standards, primarily through Ranger services
  • Biosecurity services, primarily relating to priority weed assessment and control
  • Initiate legal proceedings, where appropriate, and represent Council in courts, tribunals and hearings.

You will also be responsible for driving a culture of community service and innovation within the Certification and Compliance team, and maintaining collaborative relationships across the organisation.

 

ABOUT YOU

We are seeking a highly motivated individual with the ability to lead, drive change, and successfully manage people. You will be a natural negotiator with an ability to deliver quality outcomes within this highly regulated sector. In particular, you will have the following knowledge, skills and attributes:

  • Degree-level qualification in a legal or regulatory  area
  • Advanced skills in the interpretation and application of legislation relevant to a local government compliance. role
  • Advanced skills in the implementation of programs to support community safety and environmental health.
  • High level of verbal and written communication skills, including negotiation and conflict resolution skills.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing a team of people.
  • Ten (10) years’ relevant work experience, including working in a regulatory role.

This is a permanent full-time position. Remuneration is $2324.80 per week, plus 9.5 % employer superannuation contribution. A leaseback vehicle is also available.
