This position will support the service delivery of BVSC’s environmental health programs including surveillance of retail food premises, surveillance of public health premises, surveillance of onsite sewage management systems, BVSC drinking water quality management, environmental health complaint investigation, environmental management and emergency response, and health promotion and education.



 In this position you will be responsible for:

  • Assessing Development and Construction applications including documentation and statements for health matters
  • Maintain register and conduct inspections of public swimming pools, skin penetration premises, water cooling and warm water systems and food premises
  • Maintain and implement the onsite sewage management inspection program in accordance with the On-site Sewage Management Strategy and the requirements of the Local Government Act 1993
  • Undertake a range of activities associated with BVSC’s maintenance and testing of water quality
  • Provision of environmental health legal and regulatory compliance activities
  • Provide community advice and education as it relates to environmental health requirements.


We are seeking a qualified Environmental Health Officer that can hit the ground running in this position; you will be able to demonstrate the following;

  • Degree level qualification in Environmental Health, Environmental Management OR Environmental Science
  • Current NSW Class C Drivers Licence
  • Demonstrated experience in the investigation and resolution of environmental and/or health matters
  • Ability to liaise with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders demonstrating effective negotiation and mediation skills
  • Knowledge and experience applying the legislation pertinent to the role including; Environment Planning and Assessment Act 1979; Local Government Act 1993; Food Act 2003; Public Health Act 2010; Protection of the Environment Operations Act 1997.

This is a permanent full time position working 35 hours per week. Remuneration is $1386.10 per week as per the Local Government (State) Award 2017, plus 9.5 % employer superannuation contribution.


Selection Criteria Essential: Demonstrated skills and knowledge in environmental health.
Essential: Knowledge of the legislation pertinent to the role, including (but not limited to): Environment Planning and Assessment Act 1979; Local Government Act 1993; Food Act 2003; Public Health Act 2010; Protection of the Environment Operations Act 1997
Essential: High level written and verbal communication skills including the ability to liaise, negotiate and mediate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
Essential: Demonstrated skills in public consultation and public education/information practices.
